Émile Tessier Pierced Centerpiece

A magnificent example of French ceramic mastery, this grand oval centerpiece was crafted by the renowned Émile Tessier at the Faïencerie d'Art de Malicorne. The region's rich clay has been prized since the 18th century, but it was Tessier's delicate, sculptural approach in the 20th century that elevated Malicorne faïence to international acclaim.

This striking coupe showcases Tessier's iconic white monochrome tin-glaze, which beautifully highlights the intricate, hand-cut ajouré (pierced) lattice work wrapping the upper rim. Applied, high-relief grape clusters and trailing vines sweep across the exterior, creating incredible depth and texture.

Measuring a commanding 34 centimeters in length, the piece rests upon an elegant pedestal foot. The unglazed base bears the hand-painted "ET" cipher, guaranteeing its authenticity. It is a brilliant, luminous anchor for a dining table or kitchen island.
